Old Business:

Bill Halbrook gave a report of the status of the Web Site fundraising project. He circulated fliers and asked the membership to help publicize the project. Bids will be accepted on the web site or by e-mailing ariaje@ztotal.com

New Business:

Jackie Lamar moved and Warren Casey seconded a motion to redo the survey assessing the status of jazz programs in the public schools of Arkansas as it has been ten years since the previous survey. Motion passed. Mike Wells had done the first survey and has given permission for the Arkansas Unit to use his set of questions. Motion passed.

Rico Belotti announced that Curt Wilson of TCU will be the jazz clinician at ABA and has volunteered to conduct the IAJE Reading Band. Shattinger Music has agreed to provide the music for the reading band. Members who would like to participate in the IAJE Reading Band at ABA need to contact Vice President Becky Cavender at rcavender@sdale.org.

President Hooten announced that he has submitted to the Governor’s office to have April declared as Jazz Educator’s Month. It is already designated as Music Month. John Caldwell with Play It Again Arkansas has been contacted as well to assist with this project.

Bill Halbrook requested that college and high school jazz directors e-mail their concerts and events to ariaje@ztotal.com so that they can be put on the web site.

President Hooten gave a report from the ASBOA Jazz Materials meeting. The discussion was concerning the development of a set of tryout music instead of purchasing from Texas IAJE. There was some discussion about trying to combine a commissioning project with the composition of tryout material.

Rick Endel moved and Warren Casey seconded that the Arkansas Unit of IAJE develop a set of tryout material for potential use by ASBOA for the Arkansas All-State Jazz tryouts. Motion passed.

Discussion was held concerning having an exhibit booth at ABA to pass out materials about the organization.

Discussion was held concerning the All-State Clinic rehearsal schedule. Comments from the clinicians included that having to perform on Thursday after only having a dress rehearsal was problematic. Suggestions were to try and add a rehearsal or sectional for some time during the day on Thursday. President Hooten stated that he would recommend this to the ASBOA.

President Hooten said that the plaques were made for the All-State Clinicians.

President Hooten stated that with the projects we already had in place, that only two more were needed to move the Arkansas Unit to Meritorious level. He welcomed suggestions for additional projects.

Events: Larry Jones of UCA announced that Maynard Ferguson would be appearing on February 27, 2006 at UCA Reynolds Performance Hall.

Clay Hooten announced that Don Bailey of UAFS will present an improvisation clinic for directors on March 11 at Dardanelle High School.
